REVISED Official Rules for the Trainer Fight Grand Prix (WIP)

GENERAL RULES:

1. Trainers fight and not the Pokemon!

2. Pokemon or other outside source may not interfere.  Pokemon can act as cornermen, providing support and tending to injuries between rounds.

3. “Anything goes,” but mostly punches and kicks are used.  Full contact.

4. Matches must be fought in a boxing ring.

5. Dress code:  Shorts and boxing gloves for the guys, shirts are optional, can fight shirtless (Ash, Richie, Jason, and Jake will fight like this.)  Girls add tank tops, sleeveless shirts, etc.   Footwear is optional for both, although barefoot may be optimal for kicking.  (Nothing crazy like army boots or whatever.  Ouch!)

6. Fight can end by referee decision or knockout (more details in tournament rules below.)

7. It is STRONGLY recommended all fighters get some form of coaching before the tournament to learn basics like how to punch, kick, block, etc.  Official coaches will be available upon request.  Fighters may also coach each other.

8. All skill levels may enter.

RULES FOR PRE-TOURNAMENT FIGHTS AND SPARRING:

1. Sparring and real fights will be allowed in rings around town to provide practice leading up to the Grand Prix.

2. These fights have no time limit but fighters can request timeouts.  They’re more like freestyle fights.  They can be called by a referee or fight until a knockout.

RULES FOR THE GRAND PRIX TOURNAMENT ITSELF:

1. There’s two Divisions, Male and Female.  Each division is further divided into the age brackets:  10-15 (Ash, Richie, Jason, Jake, Serena, and others are around 11 or 12 years old. Maylene is around 15 or so.), 15-19, and 19+

2. Fights during the tournament will have timed rounds depending on each age division.  For Ash’s 10-15 bracket, 7 rounds at  2 minutes each, with a couple minute break between rounds.

3. Matches can be decided by referee’s decision based on who dealt the most knockdowns and most big hits if the fight goes the whole length.  Referee can also call the match if he notices cheating (like horseshoes in a boxing glove), or determines the match can’t go on for other reasons such as injury or a mismatch.

4. Fights may also end with knockout.  This can be by a fighter staying down for the ten count, being knocked unconscious, or by forfeit.

5. Pokemon and coaches can act as cornermen, as previously stated.

6. There will be quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals championship matches for each age division.

7. Prize will be a Championship belt (both girls and guys, according to age) and bragging rights.  Plus the option to defend their title in the next year’s Grand Prix.
Copyright:  Ash, Pikachu, and the other official Pokemon characters belong to Nintendo and Gamefreak.  Jason, Jake, and other OCs belong to me however.

Okay!  Here's an updated list of the rules I posted earlier for the Trainer Fight Grand Prix in my fanfic.  I added a few things like making official tournament matches lasting for a set number of rounds instead of unlimited time, so fighters won't be exhausted and other rules closer to actual boxing and kickboxing.  And I also put up an idea for age divisions in the Male and Female divisions.

Basically I added some more specific rules and divided it a bit so it would be clear what rules the tournament itself will follow.

A big thank you to :iconsuperabachibros: who brainstormed a bunch of this stuff with me earlier in the comments.  Definitely helps to get some outside perspective at times!

As before, this list is still a work in progress so if anybody has any recommendations or questions, let me know in the Comments below!
